Why women’s rugby is the *ultimate collegiate sport

For one, women’s rugby is the ONLY full-contact women’s sport… seriously, very few things are cooler than that.

As every college student knows, most professors love to begin the semester with the dreaded ice-breakers. If you join women’s rugby, you’ll never have to panic again trying to rack your brain for something interesting to say about yourself, because playing rugby will be your fun fact for life.

As a person who has played multiple sports throughout her life, I struggled to exist without being a part of a sports team. I even joined the dance team for a semester, now that was crazy. When you join rugby, you have the opportunity to meet people who otherwise might never have crossed your path. We are all so different; none of us have played the same sports or have the same interests, we found rugby by accident but are changed all the better for it.

My teammates are not only my friends but my family!

A huge part of rugby is trust. We are being tackled, trusting that one of our teammates is close behind us so that we can hand off the ball. Therefore, we emphasize the importance of team bonding, we have team dinners and get-togethers nearly every weekend to ensure that we are as close-knit as possible. Plus, its fun!

Not to mention that by playing rugby, you are building muscle mass while learning how to defend yourself which as we all know is never a bad thing. College campuses can be very dangerous for women so not only will you be better equipped to defend yourself, but you have about 20-30 girls who are there for you no matter what.
